AGE LEVEL:  Adult or Post Secondary Student
PHYSICAL ABILITY:  Able to push wheelchairs
COMPUTER SKILLS:  Minimal
HOURS OF WORK:  Mornings and Afternoons

Position Summary

Providing an exceptional patient experience in the Urology Clinic is a strategic priority for Mackenzie Health. Volunteers are a key component of the Urology Team. Volunteers provide a welcoming and caring environment from the moment someone enters the department. By greeting and directing patients appropriately, volunteers assist to maintain the efficient flow in the department. By providing non-medical information, volunteers are able to provide comfort while reducing anxiety and fear to patients and visitors.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  •  Identify patients in waiting room and provide instructions on preparing for the procedure;
  •  Liaise with patients; 
  •  Collate charts and organize charts as necessary;
  •  File, photocopy and answer phones as necessary;
  •  Restock supplies (gowns, charts, paper, etc.);
  •  As a volunteer, you may not provide medical, spiritual or professional counselling;
  •  Assist with other duties as requested by the unit.

Experience/Skills/Abilities

  • Has strong communication skills;
  • Shows initiative and sound judgement; 
  • Is able to work as part of the overall team;
  • Is able to provide exemplary attendance even during times of heavy work or school commitments;
  • Effectively uses empathy in interactions with others;
  • Respects privacy and confidentiality of patient;
  • Demonstrates an understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all;
  • Demonstrates behaviours consistent with Mackenzie Health's Commitment to Caring Models behavior that is aligned with the values of Mackenzie Health-Excellence, Leadership and Empathy.
