Welcome to the Mackenzie Health Volunteer Portal

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Mackenzie Health with their volunteer applications. We are currently accepting applications for the Summer Program from high school students, post-secondary students & Adults. We are ideally looking for applicants with weekday daytime availability. Please note that we expect a commitment from all our volunteers (Students & Adults) to one shift on a weekly basis for at least the entire duration of the summer program (see details below).

We will continue to review applications received until we have reached capacity. If you are selected to begin the onboarding process, you will be notified within 4-7 weeks. Mackenzie Health receives applications far in excess of the placements we have available and regrettably are not able to offer all candidates a placement. If you are not selected for this recruitment period, please try again after 6 months by logging into the account you created and submitting a new application.

Summer Program
(May to September for University Students, July to September for High School Students)

The recruitment
period for our 2024 Summer Program is from March 8th, 2024 to March 22nd (4pm). Please note that since the summer program runs for a short time, we encourage applicants to consider their summer availability. If you are planning to be away during the summer for more than 2-weeks, please consider applying another time, as we rely on consistent weekly attendance from our volunteers throughout the summer. If you would like to continue to volunteer with us after completing the summer program, you will have the option to continue volunteering through the Year-Round Program.

**Please note that students must have completed Grade 9 in order to begin volunteering. Students currently in Grade 9 may submit an application for the summer program as long as they expect to be going into Grade 10 in the following school year**

Year-Round Program (September to July)
We are currently not accepting applications for the
Year-Round Program. Recruitment for the Year-Round Program is expected to resume in late July/early August. Please note that we expect a commitment from all our volunteers (Students & Adults) to one shift on a weekly basis from September to the end of June.

High School CO-OP Program
CO-OP applications are sent to the Mackenzie Health Volunteer Department from the York Region District School Board & the York Catholic District School Board. Please contact your CO-OP teacher or guidance counsellor, as they will be submitting your application to the school board.

What We Look for in an Applicant

When assessing applications, we review for accuracy and extensiveness of responses that provides insight into the volunteer's personality and highlights the qualities the applicant would bring to the patient experience. We then consider the applicant's experience, interest and availability relative to our current vacancies.

For Student Volunteers, we look for students that can manage the application process on their own as well as manage their own schedule. Part of demonstrating this maturity is communicating on your own behalf whether by phone, email or in-person. We do not discuss applications, interviews or placements with anyone other than the applicant. For parents or guardians wishing to obtain more information about an applicant's progress, we ask that you speak directly with the applicant as we are not able to provide you with this information.

What You Should Consider before Applying

When preparing an application, please consider your ability to fully commit to the program and the patients at Mackenzie Health. We enforce a very high standard for attendance and punctuality. Volunteers in this program must be able to maintain their commitment to their volunteer placement even during periods of heavy school workload and exams.
