Thank you to everyone who continues to support Mackenzie Health with their volunteer applications. We will be accepting applications from post-secondary students and adults for the Year-Round Program starting on August 15th, 2022. At this time, we kindly ask that you do not submit an application if you are a high school student. For any high school students interested in joining our volunteer program, please revisit this webpage in mid-September for an update.
Please review the FAQ section prior to submitting your application form.
Summer Program 2023
(May to September for University Students, July to September for High School Students)
The recruitment period for our Summer 2023 Student Program (high school and post secondary students) is expected to begin in March 2023. Post secondary students are required to commit through the 4-month summer break, while high school students are required to commit through the 2-month summer break. As the volunteering period for our summer program is so short, we encourage our applicants to ensure that they are available for a weekly shift all summer. If you are planning on taking any long trips, resulting in multiple absences, please consider applying for the year-round program or the following summer program as we are looking for consistent coverage for our summer positions.
Year-Round Program 2022/23 (September to June)
The recruitment period for our Year-Round Program begins on August 15th, 2022 and will occur throughout the year as needed. Please note that we expect a commitment from all our volunteers (Students & Adults) to one regular shift on a weekly basis for at least a 6-month period.
When assessing applications, we review for accuracy and extensiveness of responses that provides insight into the volunteer's personality and highlights the qualities the applicant would bring to the patient experience. We then consider the applicant's experience, interest and availability relative to our current vacancies.
For Student Volunteers, we look for students that can manage the application process on their own as well as manage their own schedule. Part of demonstrating this maturity is communicating on your own behalf whether by phone, email or in-person. We do not discuss applications, interviews or placements with anyone other than the applicant. For parents or guardians wishing to obtain more information about an applicant's progress, we ask that you speak directly with the applicant as we are not able to provide you with this information.
When preparing an application, please consider your ability to fully commit to the program and the patients at Mackenzie Health. We enforce a very high standard for attendance and punctuality. Volunteers in this program must be able to maintain their commitment to their volunteer placement even during periods of heavy school workload and exams.
